What's An Underdog? Overcomer?

I think I'm an underdog...

At least I fit the beginning of the definition. "One who is not expected to win".  And an overcomer would be one that "overcomes".  Well, yeah - duh!

Maybe that's why I am drawn to movies, books and real-life stories of those who have overcome great difficulties.   Since there are so many movies about the underdog, the rookie, the hero who comes from behind, I think we all like and need those stories.  Especially in a world that caters to the rich and powerful and those born with ease.  The rest of us must claw and scratch at this living to make some meaning of our lives and families.

Movies, books and other media often have categories like "drama", "romance", "science fiction", etc.    But when I have looked for a category on the underdog, I continually find a gap.

There are stories of the underdog in almost every genre.  But without the catergory, it's a hit an miss thing. So... I thought I would create a weekly listing and review of new and old underdog/overcomer movies, books and other media.

Let's be inspired again.   Let's remember what makes us great as humans.  I have heard this quote before and am not sure where I heard it but it applies.  "From great adversity comes great strength."  Meaning, without the hard times, the difficulties and heartaches of this life, we would not grow stronger, be wiser or grow in our character.  We would not reach out to others or look beyond our own front doors.  We become stale and boring - lost in a sea of meaninglessness.

Everyone wants to be wanted, needed, admired; to be honored; to have the freedom to choose our own destinies.   Where is the nobility of this age, the hero that stands against the darkness?

Come with me on this journery and maybe through these stories we will stand against the tide of chaos, war, misery and heartache.  We will follow the stories of those who gave everything, sometimes their very lives to save those they loved, to rescue a nation, to build a future for those who follow!
